What is the Tumaini Miles of Smiles Center?
TMSC was founded by Kenyan Christians who had the same calling and vision to give hope and to help the most underprivileged, deprived and vulnerable members of the society. Their hearts are especially drawn to orphans, widows and poor families. Tumaini is located in the rural western province of Kenya in the Malava division, Kakamega District.
Kakamega, Kenya is one of the communities that has no access to many things, including modernized development and educational projects that are offered by large organizations. There is little to no hope in the lives of many, especially orphans and children from poor families as most of them have no access to basic education and healthcare facilities.
This reality has increased the level of poverty, hopelessness and ignorance in the community. Tumaini has a desire to provide for the physical, emotional and intellectual needs of each child and woman and of general community. Above all, Tumaini wishes to give them hope in the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Mission of Tumaini
The mission of Tumaini is to serve as an advocate for the underprivileged children and women in the community of Malava, Kenya; to release them from their spiritual, economical, social and physical poverty and enable to them to become responsible and fulfilled people in society for the glory of God.
"He will help the poor when they cry out and will serve the needy when no one else will help. He will be kind to the weak and poor, and he will save their lives. He will save them from cruel people who try to hurt them because their blood is precious to him." - Psalm 72:12-14
"Thank you for visiting our site as it is the only way to know who we are and what we do; I believe this will make you know us better. It takes heart to do the work we are doing as it has so many challenges. We thank God for giving us this heart to share his love with the underprivileged, deprived and vulnerable in the society. We are committed to do this work with love and compassion, to see our children getting good education, training, encouragement, food, clothing, shelter and above all knowing Christ and leading a godly life.
Working in rural areas is also another challenge on its own as rural areas are not easily accessed and thus do not really benefit from large organizations helping in education and providing other facilities. Selecting individuals to assist is a challenge, too. I thank God for what he is doing and I know he will continue to do more in rural areas and for those living there. I can say that with your smallest donation to any of our needs you will be helping us in a big way, and you will be helping to change the lives and giving a better future to these children. I thank God for using us to save these children as he is doing it through us for his glory.
I am kindly requesting you to join our very kind friends in bringing and sharing the love of God with these orphaned and poor children, women and youth and enable us to give them a good school, environment and a home so that they can be like other children for the glory of God. Getting involved in this noble work will make a big difference in the lives of these children who otherwise have no hope. Please pray for the children and remember to pass information about us to your friends, relatives, church, etc. Thank you."
May the Love and Peace of our Lord be with you always,

Tumaini Partnerships
In 2007, the International Sports Federation (also known as SportsPlus) visited the Tumaini Miles of Smiles Center for the first time. ISF is a non-profit missions organization based out of Atlanta, Georgia. When the ISF team saw the work that God was doing at this center, they immediately knew that they wanted to partner and help promote the needs of Tumaini in America. The needs there were great, including lack of food, clean water, clothing, school supplies, and even permanent locations for the school and orphanage.
As a result, the team decided to take on the Tumaini sponsorship project to help support the on-going ministries of Tumaini. The average household income in Western Kenya is about $30 per month. Because of this, a small sacrifice on the part of a few American families can make a huge difference in the lives of these underprivileged children!
Please prayerfully consider reading on to learn more about Tumaini and how you can be a part of what God is doing in Kenya!
Thank you, ISF, for your partnership and commitment to further the ministry of Tumaini Miles of Smiles!
Australia
TMSC is working with the church in Australia through the help of The Tharrats and the Boers families who have also worked hard to enable partner with ICARE Australia. Their efforts towards the children’s home have been realized and we thank God for them. Thank you for your partnership and commitment and it’s our prayer that God will continue to touch more people through you.
We welcome and encourage more churches, individuals, and friends to join in this wonderful work and exalt our Lord Jesus Christ!

The Orphanage
The existing orphanage was overflowing and we had to turn away needy children, so in February 2008 we began construction of our new orphanage. Stage One of this building will involve the construction of rooms to accommodate 32 children as well as office space and rooms for staff members. In Stage Two we will build a large dining room and kitchen as well as more accommodation for children. When completed the orphanage will have the capacity to house at least 50 children. Stage Three of the program will include the construction of a new school building adjacent to the orphanage. Having all the facilities at the same location will be an added convenience as well as reduce operating expenses.
God has worked out all the stages and we now have a home for our children.
The home is capable of accommodating 70 children and there is a huge need for the furnishing the home. We have needs such as; bunk beds, mattresses, blankets, utensils, shelves, seats and tables.
Why not take on one of these items as a fund raising project, either individually or as a group? If you are interested in meeting one of these needs, please contact Rose Bugusu or visit the URGENT NEEDS page for more details. If you wish to make a general contribution to the construction of the orphanage, you can make a one-time donation as well.
