At the Tumaini Miles of Smiles Children's Home, we seek to give each child the care, love and support that they need in order to be able to make a valuable contribution to our community. Orphaned children are extremely disadvantaged. Recognizing that orphans are less likely to have secure access to food, education and clothing, the Tumaini Miles of Smiles Children’s Home was established. In the face of the growing HIV/AIDS epidemic, the services offered at the Children’s Home will become even more important. Above all, we give the children an opportunity to lead a godly life and learn more about Christ.
The existing orphanage was overflowing and we had to turn away needy children, so in February 2008 we began construction of our new orphanage. Stage One of this building will involve the construction of rooms to accommodate 32 children as well as office space and rooms for staff members. In Stage Two we will build a large dining room and kitchen as well as more accommodation for children. When completed the orphanage will have the capacity to house at least 50 children. Stage Three of the program will include the construction of a new school building adjacent to the orphanage. Having all the facilities at the same location will be an added convenience as well as reduce operating expenses.
We have funding to begin work on Stage One; however, with a total cost of approximately $20,000 to complete Stage One and Two, we are still short of our goal. Our greatest need is to purchase building materials, in particular, cement, sand and roofing iron.
Why not take on one of these items as a fund raising project, either individually or as a group?
If you are interested in meeting one of these needs, please contact Rose Bugusu or visit the URGENT NEEDS page for more details. If you wish to make a general contribution to the construction of the orphanage, you can make a one-time donation as well.
